A traditional town crier and a set of stocks helped mark the opening of a refurbished supermarket in Birchington.

Somerfield’s store in Station Road offered shoppers the trip down memory lane after a survey of local people revealed that stocks and a town crier were on a list of forgotten favourites people would like to see return to the high street.

The refurbished store includes a new home entertainment section while customers can pay utility bills, TV licence and rent money at a newly installed pay point.

The store is open from 7am-10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sunday.
