Neighbours thought a man who ran from his house without any trousers or underpants on was a streaker. But he had been stabbed.

The man, in his 20s, needed an emergency operation after being stabbed in the stomach in Murston, near Sittingbourne, on Thursday.

The victim was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham, after the attack in Thomas Road.

He knocked at the house next door, leaving blood stains, before running across the road for help.

A Thomas Road neighbour who did not want to be named, said:"I was amazed because he had no trousers or pants on. He knocked on the house next door then ran across the road.

"The next thing I knew there were police everywhere. The strange thing is, he didn't look as though he had been stabbed and I couldn't see any blood. I just thought he had been locked out."

Police cordoned off the area and made house-to-house inquiries.

The Kent Air Ambulance arrived but the man was taken to hospital in a land ambulance with one of the air helicopter doctors on board.

The man remains in a stable condition in Medway Maritime Hospital. His condition is not life threatening.

Two men being questioned in connection with the attack have been released with out charge.

A 34-year-old Sittingbourne man is still being questioned.
