Cody McDonald made an immediate impact on his Gillingham return and hopes he can rekindle former glories.
McDonald, pictured, hit 25 goals for the Gills during his last loan spell, in the 2010-11 season, and is back again on a three-month loan deal from League 1 Coventry.
It’s a chance for McDonald to help fire the Gills to promotion and make a name for himself once more.
McDonald, 26, speaking before his goal earnt Gills a 1-1 draw at home to York on Saturday, said: "Since the new manager came in (at Coventry), he brought in new formations which perhaps didn’t suit my game and it hasn’t quite worked out this season.
"That doesn’t mean to say it won’t in the future. It’s an opportunity for me to try and guarantee a starting place and I’m looking forward to it.
"It’s important for me to get off to a good start here and hopefully if I do that, I can do something similar to what I did before.
"I’m here now, it’s a fresh start, I’m looking forward to the challenge. I’m buzzing, it’s a great opportunity for me to come back to Gillingham where I kick-started my career.
"Hopefully I can play a part in the Gills getting promoted."
