Prolific striker Gavin Tomlin admits any chance of returning to Gillingham looks slim.

The striker (pictured) hit six goals in 10 appearances during his loan spell from Dagenham last season.

Andy Hessenthaler was keen on making the move permanent but when the Gills boss was fired as manager it ended hopes that 29-year-old Tomlin could become a permanent fixture at Priestfield.

"I was really enjoying my time at the Gills and I was just intent on scoring as many goals as possible," said the striker.

"In the end though I ended up missing 14 games through injury and you never know how many goals I could have scored had I played in all of those games."

Asked if any move to Priestfield was now dead, Tomlin added: "I would assume so but I don’t know, I am just enjoying my holidays. As it is, I am still a Dagenham player."

An injury at the end of last season not only curtailed his scoring spree with the Gills but also dented his hopes of earning a move away from Dagenham – a club where he had struggled to find form.
