A striker remains on manager Mark Stimson’s wishlist as the team head into their opening game of the season.
Stimson brought in Jacob Erskine to bolster the front line but he is still chasing his number one target Chris Dickson.
Charlton have yet to give Stimson a definitive answer on whether they are willing to do business on the striker, who turned out for the Addicks' reserve side this week.
“We’re always looking for a striker and until that’s dead we’ll keep going,” said Stimson.
“I’ve always thought if that call comes and it’s not going to happen then we could take someone else on loan, but until we get that we have to hang in there.”
Erskine arrived on a free transfer from Bromley, with a sell on fee and other incentives attached, but it hasn’t made any difference to Stimson’s transfer budget.
Stimson said: “The kid has come in on a financial side of things is a no brainer and we have to have a gamble because it doesn’t really cost anything.”
The Gills boss is also on the hunt for a left-sided centre-half to bring in on loan as cover for injured Simon King.
