Students celebrated another year of fantastic GCSE results at schools across the area.
Wrotham School saw improved results with 39 per cent gaining 5 A*-C GCSE including English and maths for the second successive year.
Overall, 60 per cent of students gained five general GCSE at A*-C grades.
Head teacher David Day said: “Ultimately good results come down to the hard work of students and the quality of teaching. Nothing else is as important.
“I am delighted we have improved the achievement of students in the essential core subjects of English and maths. Our science results too have made positive progress.
“It is important our students achieve well in the core subjects to enhance their career and university aspirations.
“I put the progress we are making at Wrotham down to good teaching, the correct ethos and hard work.
“The support we receive from students and their parents is exceptional. I congratulate everyone on their success.
“It is good to see a number of subjects achieve higher grades than the national average. It just shows what is possible if you set your sights high and have the right attitude.”
Wrotham had 47 Grade A and A* awards with an extra 8 BTEC distinctions making a record 55 grades achieved at the highest level.
Wrotham is a specialist humanities school and its lead humanities subject, English, saw 55 per cent of its students achieve A*-C grades in the language components, with the supporting subjects performing arts having a 100 per cent A*-C pass rate and 65 per cent from religious education.
Other high achieving subjects which exceeded national averages for GCSE A*-C grades were business (100 per cent), applied art (91 per cent) and graphics (76 per cent).
Head teacher David Day reserved special praise for Stewart Payne with two A* grades and five A grades, Courtney Husselmann’s three A* grades and two A grades and Megan Bennett with five A grades.
Mr Day added strong performances were evident from James Chadwick, Jenny Gumbrell, Amy Hillman and Alf Watts with three A grades, Helen Dann, Matthew Gordon and Sophie Weaver with two A grades, Nicole Chappell, Sharnie Christie, Lani Crosby, David Edwards, Rebecca Harry, Lydia Hayman, Emily Jane Hazleden, Jack Healey, Sam Jarvis, Laura Kailanathan, Sam Lawrence and Joanne Snellgrove all with one Grade A.
