STUDENTS are believed to have been on board a coach that was destroyed by a ferocious blaze on a busy stretch of M20 motorway.

An electrical fault is thought to have started the blaze, which started at about 6pm on Thursday. Flames and smoke could be seen for miles.

Firefighters from Halling, Borough Green and Swanley were called to scene on the coastbound carriageway at Wrotham Hill, and spent about an hour tackling the feet-high flames.

Motorist Roger Waghorn, who saw the fire, said: "The smoke was terrific, I couldn't believe how bad it was.

"It seemed to me that the coach had foreign students on board and I could see a few people standing down the road."
