Students' work will aid others learning about tourism

WORK by two Thanet leisure and tourism A level students is so good that it is being used by teachers across the UK to help and encourage other youngsters taking the subject.

Ellis Bennett, from Broadstairs, and Tom Dow, from Cliftonville, near Margate, were "surprised and honoured" when Sarah Crowley, AQA exam board assistant subject office in leisure and tourism, wrote to them.

She said AQA will use work that the students completed in their AS exams – the first part of the two-year A level course – to show others how to achieve top results in the subject.

The 17-year-olds joined the sixth form at Chatham House Grammar School, Ramsgate, from Hereson School for Boys and Laleham School respectively.

They says they hope our efforts can help other students present their work in the best light for the best results.

Head teacher John Mathews said: "These lads are being modest about their excellent achievements in this subject since they came to our sixth form a year ago.

"They are smashing chaps and I am personally delighted at their success which demonstrates how well they have integrated into grammar school life after a good grounding elsewhere."

Excellent continuing results in the Leisure and Recreation A level course has resulted in Chatham House being recognised as one of the UK’s top performing schools in the subject in The Good Schools Guide which is based on information supplied by the Department for Education and Skills.
