Suit oddball who likes to splash out

A REDUNDANT water tower saved from demolition by neighbours is back on the market with permission granted to convert it into a home with a roof-top swimming pool.

The 1920s building has been out of use for eight years but initial plans to demolish it were blocked by the council after people in Barming, near Maidstone, said they wanted it to stay.

It has changed hands a few times but recently went back on the market. Owner Mick Tolhurst, who buys and sells properties, said: "It's such a one-off.

"I wanted to build an complete enclosure on the top and put my snooker table up there but I couldn't get permission so I've put it back on the market."

The property is on the market with Page and Wells in West Malling. Manager James Guillum Scott said: "It's got to be a client who's really eccentric and wants something totally different.

"It's not going to appeal to your standard two up, two down man."

The property is on the market for £220,000 and conversion costs are estimated to be in the region of £350,000.
