HYTHE Cricket Club held a very successful week, on and off the field of play.

A game was lost on the Tuesday due to the weather, but the club won one, lost two and drew the remaining encounter.

On Monday Selsdon were put into bat. Robertson (33) and Shivmantal (48) pushed the score along well and put the side in a good position. However, the lower middle order failed to push on and eventually at drawn stumps the score reached 178 for eight.

Pick of the bowlers was Ben Dwyer taking four wickets for 27 runs in eight overs.

Hythe had little trouble as Chris Payne (62) and Sam Butler (67no) got the better of the bowling attack. It took only 22 overs to record a seven wicket victory.

Rye batted first for the Wednesday fixture. Principal players being J Hamilton and J Tolhurst with 44 runs each. With added contributions from other batsmen the total amounted to 191 for four.

The reply got off to a good start as Jamie Hemphrey was in-form with a knock of 64. Two leg before wicket decisions played a crucial part in the game and failing to score four runs off the last ball.

The Lobsters fielded five St Lawrence Premier League players for the Thursday fixture. The opening batsmen scored at ease with Dom Chambers clubbing 98 and T Shan smashing shots around the ground for 100 runs. The total was 303 for five at the close.

Hythe’s reply got off well with Roger Mapstone (27), Jamie Hemphrey (42), Watkins (49) and Payne (39). The target proved too high as Hythe lost by 83 runs.

The final match on Friday was against England Deaf, who lost three quick wickets to the bowling of Jamie Hemphrey (one for 59) and Homewood (3-47).

A recovery was achieved by Watkins (45), Vayce (71no) and Daley (58) to post a score of 219 for six.

Morgan, Payne, Charlie Hemphrey and Stefan Pichowski got into double figures before being dismissed. But Paul Goddard hit top form for 70 not out in reaching 212 at the close resulting in a drawn match.
