Competition from supermarkets has helped force the closure of a garden centre.

Patrick Butler, owner of Foxhill Nursery in Calcot Hill, Sturry, is shutting the business at the end of the month.

“Business has been terrible for the past three years and there is so much competition from supermarkets doing plants and flowers now,” he said.

“People are spending less on their gardens at the moment and the credit crunch is definitely a factor.

“Also the weather has been bad in the three years I’ve been here.”

Mr Butler will now put all his efforts into his garden design business.

He is holding a half price sale on all products at the nursery until the end of the month.
