Suspected arson attack at swim pool

AN INVESTIGATION is being held into a suspected arson attack at a swimming pool in Ramsgate.

Staff from the nearby railway station raised the alarm and firefighters arrived at the pool complex in Newington Road shortly after 2.45am on Tuyesday.

Police say a wheelie bin had been pushed up against the double doors leading to the boiler room at the rear of the building. The bin was set alight and destroyed, causing damage estimated at about £400.

A police dog and handler searched the area but didn’t locate anybody.

A spokesman said: "We are treating the fire as suspicious and ask anybody with information to contact Det Sgt Marcus Whitnell at Margate police station on 01843 222192.
