A WOMAN who believes her car has been cloned has received two more penalties.
As reported in last week's Kent Messenger, Ann Butterworth, an Army welfare officer from Aylesford, received two road traffic fines and a speeding fine totalling more than £200 last week.
All the offences took place in London, yet Mrs Butterworth was working more than 100 miles away in Wiltshire when they happened.
Now the grandmother has received two more fines - one for speeding in Hove and one for a parking offence in Lambeth. Both carry a penalty of £100 and, if unpaid, could lead to court action and up to six points on her licence.
Mrs Butterworth said although the DVLA had now started taking action, she felt the problem needed to be taken more seriously.
She said: "I told them, please get this going, I can’t take any more. Since this has been in the paper the amount of people who have come up to me and said 'that’s happened to me’ is incredible. It’s really blown this sky-high.
"I was visiting my mother and one of the nurses said her car was involved in something and the police came to her. Luckily she was on a placement and could prove where she was."
Mrs Butterworth has sent off all her documentation to the Metropolitan Police and Sussex Police as well as to the DVLA, and has been told that all charges have been frozen for the time being.
Although relieved, she said she was dreading what may happen next.
"The DVLA say I can’t change my car yet until it’s been investigated," she said. "It’s like someone’s burgled your house. I keep thinking someone’s over my shoulder and watching me."
