DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a 21-year-old man in Leicester are hoping people outside of the county may be able to help them trace the whereabouts of two men wanted in connection with the incident.
Rebwar Osman Samin, from Leicester, was found with stab wounds shortly after 5pm on Wednesday, January 11, in Clyde Street, Leicester.
He was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.
Mr Samin and another man were in Sara’s Restaurant in Humberstone Road during the late afternoon and left the premises at about 5pm.
They are believed to have walked along Humberstone Road and turned left into Clyde Street where they were involved in an altercation with two other men.
The second man also received injuries and was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary. He was discharged on Friday, January 13 after treatment.
Police are trying to trace the whereabouts of Masoud Mahmood Kakawais, 22, and Sami Ali Ahmed, 24, and have distributed posters in English and Kurdish to police forces across the country.
Det Supt Chris Thomas, who is leading the investigation, he said: “Since the incident took place in January we have followed up more than 700 lines of enquiry and taken more than 140 statements.”
“Kakawais and Ahmed are both Iraqi nationals and are known to associate with the Kurdish community. There is a strong possibility that these men may have left the county and could be living within the Iraqi or Kurdish community somewhere in the country.
“I would urge anyone who knows of their whereabouts or recognises them to contact the police immediately.
“We are still appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident and have not yet spoken to the police to contact us.
"There were a number of people in the area around the time of the incident and in particular we would like to speak to a white man with long blonde hair who we believe may have vital information, which could assist with our enquiries.
“We would also like to speak to the driver of a white Mercedes van which was parked in Clyde Street and two men who were in the area around the time of the incident.
"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem could help us with our enquiries. Any calls received will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
Mr Samin’s brother Salah, who lives in Iraq, said: “I did not expect my brother to be killed this way. We ask the community to help the police to catch the men who did this to my brother.
"Rebwar was like any other young man. He loved a lady back in Iraq and wanted to return to be married. He was always telling jokes and was a kind-hearted man.
"We hope the men responsible are caught and receive their punishment. We have faith in the British justice system.”
Anyone with any information about these men or the incident is asked to contact Leicestershire Constabulary on (0116) 222 2222 or Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
A reward may be offered to anyone who provides information, which leads to the arrest and charge of the men responsible for this incident
