A NHS network and communications manager is facing the sack after downloading "foul and horrible" child sex videos.

Malcolm Williams, 35, was suspended after he was arrested following an investigation into internet porn begun by German police.

Williams, of Honeysuckle Way, Broomfield, admitted 21 charges of making and possessing images and videos between 2005 and 2010, Canterbury Crown Court heard.

The judge Recorder Christopher Oldham told him: "This was sinister and unpleasant downloading. If there were no constraints as to sentencing, I would lock you up and throw away the key!

"If I were able to send you to prison for four years where you would get treatment then I would do so. But under the sentencing constraints imposed upon me, that is not an option for this kind of case."

He gave him an eight month jail sentence suspended for two years on condition he undertakes a special programme to deal with his sex offending.

Prosecutor Donna East said that on August 5 last year, Williams – who has worked for the NHS for 12 years – was arrested after police raided his home.

At first, he claimed the images and movies – which ranged from levels one to five, the highest – had been downloaded "accidentally" while he was looking for adult porn.

"He told police that he viewed the videos out of curiosity and received no sexual gratification for this," she added.

Williams – who has also been involved in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme for 15 years – has now been banned with working with children.

His barrister Rai Puneet said: "He now accepts that is a scheme he will no longer be involved with. Since his suspension from work, he has done volunteer work for Kent Wildlife Trust to contribute something positive to society.

"He has also suffered from within his community. Graffiti was sprayed over his house and someone tried to gain entry to his home and shouted abuse at him. It is his intention now to leave the area.
