Hundreds of youngsters have competed in the qualifying table tennis events for next year's Kent School Games.

Thirty teams and almost 400 pupils took part at Dover Leisure Centre. Dane Court won the boys’ under-13 competition after seeing off Canterbury High 4-0 in the final, having beaten Simon Langton B by the same score in the last four.

The boys’ under-15 final was an all-Simon Langton affair, with the A team beating their B team 3-1.

Earlier, in the semi-finals, the A team defeated Canterbury High 3-1 and the B side beat Harvey GC by the same score.

The girls’ competitions were decided on a group basis and both age groups were won by teams from Dover GS with the under-13s finishing 16 points clear of second-placed Pent Valley and the under-15s finishing 12-clear of the same rivals

At Leigh Technology Academy in Dartford , t he leading teams in the under-13 boys age group were Leigh Technology College and Wilmington Boys Grammar School.

The under-15 boys age group saw Leigh Technology College and Wilmington Boys Grammar School triumph.

Dartford Grammar School Girls A and B teams won the under-15 girls event and the same school saw their A and B teams also win the under-13 girls event.

At Sittingbourne Community College, SCC won through to July’s finals in the under-15 boys while Westlands progressed in the under-13 girls’ and under-15 girls’ categories.

Aylesford Sports College took the honours at Maplesden Noakes School in Maidstone. Aylesford’s under-13 and under-15 girls team both won through.

Also going through were Oakwood Park Grammar School’s under-15 boys and, in the under-13 boys section, Oakwood Park Grammar School and Cornwallis School triumphed.

Organiser Neil Castle said: "It was a big week for table tennis heats for the Kent School Games. It’s a great opportunity to get so many young competitors together to show off their talents and represent their schools and the winners are now a step closer to being successful in the county finals next July."
