Takaloo ended his big comeback with a first round defeat during Thursday night’s Prizefighter contest.
The Margate boxer, who has previously been a two-weight world champion, fell at the first hurdle to the eventual winner in the light-middleweight competition at York Hall.
Takaloo, 35, was paired with reserve fighter Robert Lloyd-Taylor in the first of four quarter-final bouts in Sky Sports’ live knock-out event.
Lloyd-Taylor was only fighting because original competitor JJ Bird fainted in the dressing rooms before the night had even begun. The 31-year-old won his place alongside the seven other boxers on the toss of a coin between fellow reserve Nathan Weise.
A close-fought contest had the judges split at the end of the three rounds with little to separate the pair. Both had thrown and landed an almost identical amount of punches.
Gillingham’s Ian John-Lewis gave Takaloo the win 29-28 but his fellow two judges disagreed, instead favouring Lloyd-Taylor, leaving the Margate man beaten.
“I thought I had won the fight but it’s one of those things,” said Iranian-born Takaloo.
“He is an awkward fighter, using his jab, but I thought I had done that little bit more. I’m gutted.”
The defeat could finally end Takaloo’s long career which a decade ago took him to the top of the world. “I need to get home and have a think,” he said.
