A procession of taxis paid their respect to Medway taxi driver Ashley Adams, who died while on his dream holiday.

Mr Adams, who worked in Rainham since about 1986, died after a heart attack in Cambodia, aged 41.

He was visiting a friend after a painful marriage break up.

His funeral was held at Christ Church, in Luton, Chatham, on Friday .

The funeral cortege left from niece Jennifer Adams’s house in Lordswood in the morning and were joined by the taxi convoy of about 50 cars on North Dane Way.

Miss Adams said:“All the family were really pleased with the taxis, it made it feel really special.

“It has been hard and emotional but a really lovely send off.

“The stories we have heard about him today have been very funny, it’s been good to meet everybody.”

Tim Paton, owner of Rainham Cab Company, based in Station Road, was one of Mr Adams’s best friends.

He said: “It was a sad occasion but there about 150-200 people who turned up, it went as well as it could.

“He was well loved by everybody, he did not have a bad bone in his body, he was a funny guy.”

Mr Adams was buried at Chatham Cemetery in Maidstone Road and mourners gathered for a wake at the Roffen Club, in New Road, Rochester.

Mr Paton added:“He was the life and soul of the party, he will be missed by a lot of people.”
