Two thieves got more than they bargained for when they were foiled by a teenage black belt kickboxing champion.

The two young men had just smashed the passenger window and taken valuables from one of eight cars parked in a side street in Gillingham - just 200 yards from the police station.

At that point Amie Miller, 19, came around the corner on her way back home from university.

She was national kickboxing champion for the under 50kg weight group for four years and British Champion for three.

Realising what the pair were up to, she yelled and chased after them. They managed to get away but only with a car radio.

Amie said: "There were seven or eight cars parked. I'm just glad they only had time to break into one."

Amie, originally from south west London, studies law at the University of Kent.

She said she was "prepared" if they had tried to fend her off.

Amie said: "I'm not a violent person but I know what it's like having your car broken into and your things stolen. Too many people are happy to just stand by and do nothing; you may as well be the one stealing."

The incident happened last Wednesday at 10.15am.

One of the offenders was a slightly-built blond teenage boy, about 16, the other was wearing a grey tracksuit and had his hood up.
