CLASSMATES have made touching tributes to a teenager who died after collapsing on a school playing field.

Pupils at Mascalls School, Paddock Wood, spoke about their friendship with 17-year-old Daniel Green during a special assembly. They also decorated a tree in the school grounds with pictures and floral tributes to him.

The sixth former, whose family lives in Paddock Wood, collapsed and died of heart failure while playing football on a field at the school in Maidstone Road.

Deputy head teacher Mark Waller said: "[The assembly] was very moving."

Vanessa Everett, the school's head teacher, said Daniel, who had a pre-existing heart condition, was "a very popular young man".

An inquest was opened and adjourned on Thursday.
