Teenage couple attacked by gang of thugs

POLICE are appealing for information following serious assaults on an 18-year-old woman and her male companion as they walked home in the early hours of the morning.

The couple's ordeal began as they passed a group of people in New Road at Chatham.

A female member of the group suddenly approached the 18-year-old woman and assaulted her.

After this incident the victim and her companion, also aged 18, continued to walk home. But as they approached Luton Arches the group approached them again and they were both assaulted.

The 18-year-old woman suffered a suspected broken cheekbone and the 18-year-old man suffered a black eye.

It is thought the group consisted of around seven men and four women. The assaults occurred sometime between 2.30am and 3.15am on Saturday, June 16.

Anyone with information that may help the police is asked to contact the area crime unit at Medway Police Station on 01634 792521 or Kent CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
