Teenager charged over road deaths

A teenage driver has been accused of killing an 84-year-old woman and her daughter in Strood last year.

Jamie Smith, 18, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Two women died following the incident in Station Road where they were involved in a collision with a car at 12.05pm on July 26.

They were 84-year-old Elsie Blades and her 60-year-old daughter Marilyn Herlihy.

Smith, of Alamein Avenue, Chatham, has been released on bail and will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on May 17.
