THE remains of a tent floating off the Kent coast sparked a search operation lasting more than an hour on Saturday evening.

Whitstable Lifeboat was launched at 7.50pm after reports of a possible upturned dinghy around a mile off Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey.

After a lengthy search hampered due to low water the lifeboat crew found the object was a tent. Its remains were taken ashore.
