SO, AFTER all the speculation, Stan Ternent is our new manager.

Although he wasn’t my first choice, I think Paul Scally has done well in giving the former Burnley manager the task of keeping us up.

Stan has experience at this level and his sides have always scored plenty of goals – even if they have let a few goals in along the way. But more importantly than that, he has an ability to attract big name players.

This is, after all, the man who managed to sign both Ian Wright and Paul Gascoigne for Burnley.

And if you can attract names of that calibre to a town like Burnley, then there has to be hope for us down here in the Garden of England!

Some people on the internet appear to be disappointed with the appointment, saying that Scally has sentenced us to relegation, but I have to disagree.

I think that some of this mess we’re in is due to some of the players becoming complacent during the Hessenthaler regime, and Stan has already been saying the right things.

I was particularly pleased to hear him say: “I’ve had a look around the club, and I think the players have been well looked after, so I think it’s payback time now.”

I don’t think he’s going to take anything less than 110 per cent from anyone.

He’s walked straight into an injury crisis though, with Danny Spiller (broken leg) and Jason Brown (hamstring) both out until at least the middle of January and Matty Jarvis and Steve Banks both missing for a couple of weeks.
