A terrified pregnant woman suffered a miscarriage just days
after jumping from a roof to flee a burglar.

Sarah Weston, 30, leapt across to her neighbour's house in Mill
Road, Sturry, as James Scamp smashed his way in.

The mum-of-two, pictured left, lost her baby nine days
after the ordeal - and fears it was caused by her horrifying
experience.

She said: "It was the scariest moment of my life, more so
because I have kids.

"Thankfully they were at school, but I would have no idea what
I’d have done if they were with me."

Ms Weston had been feeling ill and was resting home alone
when cash-strapped Scamp struck in November.

Police were contacted after she jumped onto her neighbour's
roof and asked for help.

Detectives arrested Scamp after discovering his blood on the
family safe.

Two televisions, a laptop, hair straighteners and a duvethad
been taken.

Scamp admitted burglary from a home at Canterbury Crown Court.

He also pleaded guilty to being in breach of a suspended
sentence imposed forburglary at an unoccupied student house in
March 2010.

Ms Weston said: "He was quite casual, at one point I could see
him, but he couldn’t see me then I heard him smashing his way into
the house.

"I was just thinking ‘I’ve got to get out, I’ve got to get out’,
I didn’t know whether to contact my partner first or the police. I
jumped onto my neighbour's roof and they let me in.

"I don’t know if that caused me to have a miscarriage, but it
certainly didn’t help - I still don’t like being alone
now.

"For a few months I didn’t want to be left on my own."

Ms Weston spent two days in hospital after the incident.

Scamp's own pregnant partner was in court to hear the
description of his return to crime - said to have
been triggered by unemployment and alcohol.

Scamp was jailed for a total of 16 months.
