Tesco is to build a fifth store in Thanet after councillors approved plans to build an Express shop in Westbrook.
The latest store, which the retailer says will meet people’s “day-to-day needs”, will be built on Canterbury Road, close to the Royal Sea Bathing Hospital development.
It is expected to open between 6am and 11pm daily, selling fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, as well as health and beauty products and alcohol.
An ATM cash machine will also be installed and several one and two bedroom flats built above the new shop.

Tesco says it will make a maximum of five deliveries to the store each day. It has pledged to avoid peak traffic times and keep disruption to local residents to a minimum.
Thanet council said that bollards preventing lorries from parking at the front of the store and minimising the risk of ram raids need to be installed. Councillors also insisted that the building must feature alumimum windows.
