Evons Kyalli is a greyhound that I featured here recently after her meteoric rise through our entire grading system at the track.
Having started her racing career here in late December, she registered no fewer than 10 wins by the third week of June which saw her climb from bottom grade A8 up to A2 level.
She subsequently earned a shot at the best when racing on two occasions in top grade A1 over the 380 metres and while she managed to finish second in one of those races, beaten by just a length and a quarter, it seemed that at that time that it was perhaps just a step too far.
The Racing Office clearly felt that she should be returned to grade A2 at that point. However, last week saw the Ian Stevens-trained dog win again so there is a possibility now that she will get a second chance to land that elusive top grade win.
When she featured at this level before, she went off twice at a price of 8-1, which was probably a fair reflection of her chances then.
She was also beaten by the same dog Selkirk Souter both times. I know that her trainer thinks that it will take a while yet to get an A1 victory but I am not so sure. Souter is after all one of the fastest dogs here and had the company been different Evons could have won.
We are about to find out but what can be guaranteed is that she will again be a decent price.
It has also been pleasing to see that Lilys Inthe Snow has lost none of her enthusiasm having returned to the race card after her seasonal rest.
You can not do anymore than win two races from two starts which is exactly what she has achieved for trainer Barry O’Sullivan after an absence of three months.
Currently racing over 380m, it will be interesting to see if her connections now switch her to the six-bend 540m trip, not that she will be inconvenienced by such a move as she is equally effective over both distances as her form book shows.
In my estimation, she is one of those greyhounds that is perhaps under rated by many. After all, 20 wins and 21 seconds from 82 starts puts her in the frame in 50% of her career races which is above average. She has earned my respect and her doggy opponents would be wise to view her in a similar fashion.
