AT THE Tokyo Motor Show Nissan unveiled four vehicles that will change the shape of motoring across the globe.

The four concept cars include the Pivo 2, which presents a new connection between car and driver, and the Round Box, a youth-oriented compact convertible that provides a unique sensation of speed and exhilaration.

The Pivo 2, an advanced electric concept car, builds on the popularity of the first Pivo, shown at the 2005 Tokyo show. Powered by advanced Compact Lithium-ion Batteries and featuring a unique rotating cabin – meaning no reverse gear required – the first Pivo became a cult hit at shows from Beijing to Geneva.

The two other concept models were the funky looking NV200 that in effect is a mobile office and van in one package and the Intima with its instrument panel padding that appears to “float” in between the wood grain panels.

Also at the show Nissan announced the launch of the Nissan GT-R, a new performance supercar. The 480PS twin-turbo GT-R features a newly developed Premium Midship package, including the world’s first independent transaxle 4WD developed independently by Nissan.

The GT-R features a specialised production process. Carbon fibre, aluminium and steel components are assembled with a special high-precision process, which includes a series of vibration tests.

Engines and transmissions are assembled in a "clean room" environment and upon completion every GT-R undergoes a battery of comprehensive tests to ensure the proper operation of all vehicle components.

The GT-R will be available mainly through Nissan High Performance Centres nationwide in Japan next month.
