Professional summer repertory theatre returns to Broadstairs for the first time in more than 50 years this week.

Produced and directed by Michael Friend Productions, it opens on Wednesday at the Sarah Thorne Theatre Club, Memorial Theatre, Hilderstone adult education centre, with The Millionairess by Bernard Shaw that runs until Saturday at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

This satirical comedy from the 1930s takes a mocking look at the glamour of wealth and the illusion of power it creates.

From Wednesday, August 6, until Saturday, August 9, Game Plan by Alan Ayckbourn is featured.

Single mother, plus bright teenage daughter, plus major money problems – sounds familiar. But the solution Sorrel and her school friend come up with is a most unfamiliar one.

Ayckbourn’s Role Play occupies the slot between Wednesday, August 13, to Saturday, August 16.

In this story, Justin and Julie-Ann, both in computers but hopelessly mismatched in love, are about to introduce their respective parents to each other over dinner.

Into this delicate situation drops, literally, Paige a former lap-dancer with her thick ex-boxer minder.

Finally, from Wednesday, August 20, to Saturday, August 23, three of Alan Bennett’s perfect monologues, Her Big Chance, A Chip in the Sugar and Bed Among the Lentils are performed.

The two Alan Ayckbourn plays will be touring the country after the Broadstairs season.
