Young fans of David Walliams' Gangsta Granny can attempt their own theft of the Crown Jewels this summer thanks to a new ride bringing one of his much-loved stories to life.
The first pictures of Gangsta Granny: The Ride have been unveiled as the new attraction opens at Alton Towers Resort.
Based on David Walliams’ most popular children’s novel - about a boy called Ben who discovers his grandma is an international jewel thief - the ride will see guests join Ben and Granny as they attempt the greatest heist in the history of the world- to steal the Crown Jewels from the Tower of London. Guests will be swept-up in the pair's exhilarating escapade in a multi-sensory ride that will twist and spin through the sewers and the streets of London before breaking into the Crown Jewels vault.
The ride, which has been given the seal of approval by the author when he took a behind-the-scenes look earlier this month, is just part of an area that has been transformed inside the Staffordshire park to reflect the popularity of Walliams' stories.
Other rides and attractions including the Royal Carousel, Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp, Flavio’s Fabulous Fandango, as well as the chance to pick up a bargain in character Raj’s Shop. Families can also book for an overnight stay in the new Gangsta Granny themed rooms in the Alton Towers Hotel. The interactive experience includes the chance to crack the vault code to receive special treats during your stay.
Alton Towers is one of a number of theme parks planning new rides and attractions for the summer season to entice visitors and holidaymakers. It is predicted that the UK could be facing a staycation boom as more households opt for a UK-based break this year because of ongoing coronavirus restrictions surrounding foreign travel.
At both theme parks capacity is currently limited to enable social distancing, there is enhanced cleaning regimes and masks on all rides and attractions (excluding water rides) for those aged over 11.
