Thieves steal pensioners' motorised wheelchairs

TWO motorised wheelchairs have been stolen from a sheltered housing development in Margate. A care worker arrived at the flats in Charlotte Square to find the chairs missing.

One is grey and worth £4,000. The other is red and worth £2,000. A police spokeswoman said: ”These chairs are very heavy, and we doubt they could have been stolen by one person.

“They don’t move particularly quickly, and can only travel about 15 miles before they need recharging, so we believe they were loaded into a vehicle. What we don’t understand is the motive behind this crime.

“One owner is in his 70s, and the other is nearly 90, so they have been greatly inconvenienced by this."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Margate police on 01843 231055.
