EDF Energy says engineers are working to restore supplies as quickly as possible

More than 3,000 people were left without power on Tuesday morning.

Around 3,300 customers suffered a power cut because of a fault on an underground electricity cable in the Barming area of Maidstone.

A spokesman for EDF Energy said engineers restored supplies to more than 1,400 customers just after 7.45am and a further 132 shortly after 8am.

Some households also lost their water supply.

The spokesman added: "Engineers are working as quickly and as safely as possible to ensure the remaining customers have power again soon.

"We appreciate it can be difficult to be without power, especially at this time of year. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident."
