More than 9,000 dangerous toys destined for the Christmas market have been found on lorries at the Port of Dover.
It's thought the toys, which were seized by Trading Standards, were going to be kept at warehouses in the South East before being sold on small market stalls across the county.
Mark Rolfe, area manager for Trading Standards in Kent, said: "We've seized toys with faulty electrics, including battery packs which would give you an electric shock.
"We've also found cycle helmets that wouldn't protect the box they were sold in, let alone a child's head, as well as soft toys that are held together with pieces of wire that come out and have sharp edges."
Following this week's seizure, Trading Standards is now warning people to stay alert when shopping during the festive period.
Mr Rolfe added: "There are some real bargains to be had from legitimate traders in Kent but if you're buying for a child, have a careful look at what you're buying.
"Take the toy in your hands, have a play with it and if it's a cuddly toy, try pulling the eyes out. Make sure it's robust."
