Three cut free from van after crash

Firefighters cut off the roof of a van to free two men and a woman after the vehicle was involved in a collision with a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was also injured in the crash, at Cliffe on Sunday afternoon.

The rider, who has not been named, was in collision with a van on the B2000, at its junction with Dillywood Lane, at about 4.10pm.

Firefighters from Strood, along with paramedics and police, were called to the scene.

The motorcyclist was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital. It is not known how serious his injuries are.

Medway Police closed the road firefighters used specialist equipment to cut the roof off the van, thought to be a Vauxhall Astra type, to free the occupants.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “The motorcyclist was not trapped and was treated by an ambulance crew.

“It is standard procedure to cut the roof off and remove the glass from a vehicle when the people inside are complaining of back and neck pain."

The police accident investigation team was at the scene of the collision and the road remained closed for nearly two hours.
