Forget summer, Kent is set for a soaking as a severe weather warning is issued for more than two days of rain.

The Met Office has this morning upgraded the severity of the warning from yellow - meaning be aware - to amber - be prepared.

Heavy and thundery showers are expected to drench the county and the rest of the south east from this evening, throughout tomorrow and into Friday.

The Met Office says "scattered but potentially intense thundery downpours" are likely, although many areas may miss them.

People are warned to prepare for localised flooding, with some places expected to see 30mm of rainfall in the space of an hour and 50mm or more in two hours.

There could also be frequent lightning, with warm and humid air from France bringing an increased risk of thunderstorms tomorrow evening.

The yellow warning comes into force at 6pm tonight and remains in place until 6am on Friday.

It coincides with the amber warning, which is in place from 6pm tonight until 6am tomorrow.
