Promotion will be the third of four objectives for Gills chairman Paul Scally
by Luke Cawdell
Gills chairman Paul Scally believes the club are just three wins away from securing their place in League 1 next season.
Promotion will be the third objective of Mr Scally’s four-part plan.
"We have achieved our second objective and for that I am delighted," he said.
"Our first was not to get relegated and our second was to get into the play-offs. We have four objectives and we have achieved our second but that’s all we have achieved so far.
"I still think we need another three wins (for promotion) and I think 84 points is what we need. Maybe that will give us second place, maybe top.
"Others think we need less than that but I thought all along, at the start of the season, we needed around the 84-point mark.
"What’s important is we keep trying to win each game and only the mathematics will tell us if we are going to achieve what we want to achieve.
"There is a chance (for the title) if we keep doing what we’re doing so that’s what we have to try and do. The next thing to achieve is our third objective, which is to get us promotion, and then our fourth will be to win the Championship."
The Gills face promotion chasers Fleetwood on Saturday and Rotherham on Monday, in what could be a crucial Easter period, as teams jostle for positions ahead of the final weeks of the season.
