A thug who viciously attacked a neighbour who complained about loud music being played late at night has been jailed for 14 months.
Drunk father-of-five Marian Csiszar punched 32-year-old Bradley Ward several times, causing him a serious eye injury.
But a judge said he had to assume the victim had made a good recovery because there was no up-to-date medical report.
Prosecutor Anne Phillips said there had been problems over the Slovakian playing loud music “into the wee small hours”.
Mr Ward on November 1 2009 fell asleep at home in The Parade, Valley Drive, Gravesend, and woke up to the sound of loud music next door.
Mr Ward knocked on Csiszar’s door and asked him to turn it down. Csiszar asked him: “What’s your problem?”
The victim said he would have to call the police and as he went to leave Csiszar pushed him and then punched him in the right eye, Mrs Phillips told Maidstone Crown Court.
He was punched again and he fell to the ground. He was then struck six or seven times. His girlfriend saw one kick to the face.
Mr Ward managed to get up and return to his flat. The police arrived and Csiszar, 31, was arrested.
The victim suffered extensive injuries, the most serious of which was damage to the orbital floor of his eye. He had double vision.
An operation was carried out at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.
Mrs Phillips said Csiszar was released on police bail to return on November 19 but he then went to Slovakia.
He was not arrested until May last year when police saw him driving a BMW car. A check revealed he was wanted on a warrant and he was arrested and held in custody.
A week later he pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and was granted bail.
Mr Justice Saunders told Csiszar, now of Marina Drive, Gravesend, Mr Ward was perfectly entitled to ask for the music to be turned down.
The judge said of the assault: “You did it because you were drunk. If you behave in that way when you have been drinking, then you should give up drink.”
