A MOTHER and son were left needing hospital treatment after being attacked by two men who said they did it for "fun".
Jamesine Ina Tortice, 52, of Speedwell Close, Gillingham, was drinking in the Royal Engineers Pub, on Twydall Green when she was attacked by two men.
She phoned her 25-year-old son, Richard Broom, for help. When he arrived he was also attacked by the two men and was knocked unconscious.
Mr Broom, also of Speedwell Close, said: “I got a phone call from my mum saying that she was being attacked by two men in the pub and she didn’t know what to do. “I don’t drive so I ran next door to ask my neighbour to take me to the pub to help my mum.
“When I got there she was stood outside, upset and frightened. I ran into the pub to see why these men had hurt her. They said that they had done it for fun.
“They then started to hit me and I don’t remember any more because I was knocked unconscious. My brother, Christopher, 26, was with me and he said that they smashed my head into the door.”
Mr Broom had to have 11 stitches in his face after the attack. His mother was left with a fractured finger and a large lump on her head that has now turned into a cyst.
No-one has been charged and police are still appealing for witnesses to the assault that they describe as serious.
It happened between 5.30pm and 7pm on Monday, October 24. Anyone with any information is asked to ring PC Balbir Billen in Medway on 01634 884059.
