A lightning storm is due to hit Kent and Medway today, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning.
The government agency has advised heavy rain and and thunder is “likely to cause some disruption to travel” between 11am and 10pm.
“There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus,” said the update.
“Some flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible, and there will probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes.”
The Met Office also warned of possible delays to train services as well as short term loss of power.
The bad weather is likely to continue through Tuesday, with heavy showers and thunderstorms slowly moving across more southern and eastern parts of England into the evening.
“A few places could see 20 mm of rain within an hour and possibly 30-40 mm in 2-3 hours, along with lightning and hail," added meteorologists.
