THE controversial plan to build a coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth will be considered by councillors next week.

The plan by the power giant E.ON led to Greenpeace activists taking over the existing power station in a highly-publicised demonstration last month.

A spokesman for the environmental group was unable to confirm if they would continue their compaigning at the council meeting but he said: "We have probably had our say already."

Campaigners scaled the 500ft chimney and painted slogans on it.

Tight security will be in place in the Municipal Buildings, Gillingham, on Wednesday evening, even though the council cannot make any decisions about the plans that were first revealed in the Medway Messenger last year.

Instead, they will make recommendations to John Hutton, the Business and Enterprise Secretary, and he will make the final decision.

Planning officers are recommending they should not object. In return E.ON will give the council £1.15million to improve the A228.
