ENTRIES are being invited for the 2008 Kent Village of the Year.

The competition, run by Action with Communities in Rural Kent and sponsored by Calor Gas, encourages the county's villages to celebrate their unique quality of life and has awards for catergories including community life, young people, older people and environmental action.

The overall winner for 2007 was Smarden, near Ashford.

To enter, villages must have a population of fewer than 5,000 and organisers are looking for thriving village communities. Entry packs can be obtained by visiting www.ruralkent.org.uk
