Today is expected to be the busiest day of the games so far in Kent as action finally gets under way in the Olympic Stadium.
According to Visit Kent, 7,300 spectators are estimated to be coming into the county from Europe via Eurotunnel and Dover ferry services.
Research done by Ebbsfleet International station also highlighted August 3 as one of its busiest days.
Ben Ruse, from High Speed 1, said: “We know the events schedule in the park builds up over the next few days and our busiest times are still to come. We are happy with how it’s gone so far but we’re not being complacent.”
Ebbsfleet International will be busy with Olympic spectators
The transport network’s first real test came on Monday as both commuters and Olympic tourists headed up to London but there were no major problems on the roads or rails.
High speed services were cancelled between Ebbsfleet and Stratford on Tuesday when a trespasser wandered onto the line but there have been no major incidents caused by the increase in passengers.
Two campsites have also been set up in Gravesend for tourists using Ebbsfleet to travel up to the Olympic Park.
They are run by The Camping and Caravanning Club, which said it is also expecting its busiest weekend of the games so far.
