A TODDLER was rescued from drowning by courageous holidaymakers after falling into a swimming pool at a holiday caravan park.
Three-year-old Oliver Hallam, of Swanley, was pulled from the bottom of the adult pool at a holiday complex near Ramsgate on Sunday afternoon.
The family was borrowing a friend's caravan at the Foxhunter complex at Monkton when quick-thinking holidaymakers and staff prevented tragedy.
Jane Stacey, park director, said: "We understand he had been enjoying the sunshine with his parents outside the pool area when he slipped away and ran off. A search was immediately launched."
The next thing the parents of little Oliver Hallam and staff at the complex knew was that a 10-year old boy swimming underwater surfaced and yelled he had seen a child at the bottom of the pool.
Peter Manners, a caravan owner at the complex, and the pool attendant Daniella Churcher dived into the pool and dragged the young boy out.
Mrs Stacey said: "The poor child was blue and he was not breathing."
Steve Blain, a risk management manager for Kent Ambulance NHS Trust, who was staying at the park with his family, began to resuscitate Oliver.
The complex's beautician Michelle Tona, who is also a nurse, aided Mr Blain.
Oliver was taken to the Queen Mother Hospital at Margate but was later transferred to Guy's Hospital in London.
A spokesman for Guy's Hospital said on Tuesday: "Oliver is stable and doing well."
His parents have kept a vigil at the toddler's beside since he arrived at the London hospital.
Mrs Stacey said: "We are absolutely delighted. We were desperately worried for him and his family. We still do not know how he managed to get into the pool.
"Our safety patrol is extremely diligent and counts the number of people in the water every ten seconds."
She added: "She recorded twelve people swimming in the pool before and after Oliver fell in.
"He must have gone in so quickly."
