Tonbridge manager Tommy Warrilow has appointed Ollie Schulz as skipper for the new season.
The centre-half joined the Angels from Dover midway through the last campaign and Warrilow said: "He’s a top lad. He’s not a bit of trouble and he’s got that presence all skippers should have. It was a no brainer for me to make him captain."
Warrilow believes Schulz (pictured) has the potential to follow another former Angels centre-half – Brentford’s Leon Legge – into the Football League.
He added: "There is more to come from Ollie. He’s a fantastic player and I can’t see any difference between him and Leon."
Schulz will lead Tonbridge out for the first time in a competitive game when they open their Blue Square Bet South campaign at Maidenhead on Saturday. The match is, by a strange coincidence, a repeat of Angels’ opening game last season – and what Warrilow would give for a repeat scoreline.
Tonbridge cruised to a 4-0 win that day and Warrilow said: "I can’t imagine Johnson Hippolyte (the Maidenhead manager) will have to do much of a team talk. He will just have to remind them about what happened last time."
Lee Browning misses the matches because of suspension while fellow midfielder Jon Heath and defender Sonny Miles are also sidelined. Heath awaits a knee scan and Miles is making a return from a hernia operation. Mark Lovell will be in the squad after signing dual registration forms in midweek.
