Tony Burman says only a FA Cup victory over Canvey Island can get rid of the "bad taste" left by Dartford’s Blue Square Bet South defeat at Boreham Wood on Saturday.
The Darts boss tore into his players after they handed their fellow Ryman League promotees their first win of the season with a dismal second-half display.
Burman said: "The performance was not acceptable and left a bad taste in my mouth.
"It was 0-0 at half-time and we’d had three or four good chances prior to that and if we’d scored, it would have been a different game.
"I spoke to the players afterwards and told them I couldn’t defend them like I have done. They have got to be better than that. We were well below par."
He reacted by calling in several players to play in Monday’s night’s 1-0 friendly win against Ryman League Division 1 South Dulwich.
Burman added: "I want a response and a much better performance. If I get them, then hopefully we’ll be in the hat for the next round.
"It will be a tough game, Canvey are a good side but we were in the same situation when we went there in the league last season.
"We’d not performed at home to Cray the previous weekend but went there and played well and won 5-2."
