THE CREATORS of some of the most popular and enduring characters on children’s television will be honoured tomorrow with a top award.
Peter Firmin, 79, from Blean and Oliver Postgate, 80, from Thanet collaborated to produce many well-loved programmes including Bagpuss, Ivor the Engine, The Clangers, Noggin the Nod and Pogles Wood.
Now the pair are to receive The Action for Children’s Arts J.M. Barrie Award which is given annually to practitioners whose work the ACA believe will stand the test of time.
Since the 1950s, they have worked together to delight generations of children with Oliver writing and narrating and Peter designing and building the sets and animating.
They will receive their award at the Savoy Hotel in London.
