One of the oldest orders of chivalry in the country has been bestowed on a pensioner who has been involved in St John Ambulance for more than 40 years.
Denise Warman, 60, is now a so-called Serving Sister of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, which was sanctioned by The Queen.
Mrs Warman has worked in Sheerness Docks for the past seven years as a credit controller for Capespan Ltd which is a fruit importer.
She said: “I joined St John sometime in the early 1960s because my ambition was to become a nurse. I loved all the theatre duties we did at the time."
