THE four Conservative candidates hoping to be selected to compete against Ken Livingstone for the post of London's mayor went head-to-head last night in a bid to win over the voters of Bexley.

The would-be leaders of the capital each spelled out their election promises in the final hustings.

Boris Johnson, Warwick Lightfoot, Andrew Boff and Victoria Borwick fielded questions at Sidcup Sports Club about how they would run the city.

They all agreed there should be more power for the London boroughs to run themselves and less interference from the mayor on planning issues.

And they each promised to cut red tape and bureaucracy at City Hall.

One of the mayoral hopefuls will be selected as the Conservative candidate for next May’s election in a ballot which closes on Wednesday, September 26.

The winner will be announced by the end of September.
