A 60-year old tortoise which made a great escape from her home in Strood has been found safe and well.
Torty went missing last month after she managed to climb through a gap in her owner’s garden fence.
Leaflets were posted through doors and posters placed on trees in the hope she had been found by someone living nearby.
Two days later Torty’s owners received a phone call from a man saying he had found her wandering the streets a quarter of a mile away from her home. He had taken her to an RSPCA centre in Walderslade.
The son of Torty’s owner, who doesn’t want to be named, said: “We really didn’t think we were going to get her back.
“As soon as she went missing my dad was just concerned for her welfare.
“The tortoise was given to him by a family friend as a present when he was about 10 years old.
“She’s always trying to escape but she’s never been successful up until now. It was a small gap in the fence that my dad hadn’t noticed.
“It’s well and truly blocked up now but she’s now going round testing the fence to see if there’s any weak spots she can get through.”
