COUNCILLORS are to push for two-year prison sentences after hearing that many of the fatal accidents on the A228 near Rochester were due to drink-driving.
Parish council chairman, Cllr Chris Buckwell (Con), supported a proposal at a meeting from Cllr Reh Chishti (Con) who said the maximum jail sentence for repeated drink-driving offences was six months.
Cllr Buckwell said: “The number of deaths on the A228 which have involved drink is quite frightening. Drink-driving costs lives.”
There have been 34 deaths in the past 20 years on the A228 in the Medway area.
